Hi all, in the market for a road bike and set my budget at the £600 - £650. Been to my local bike shop and they've recommended the Giant Defy 3 (2010) and the Trek 1.2. Only ridden mountain bikes in the past so I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to the tech spec of road bikes.
Any advice on these bikes or alternatives much appreciated.
Thanks

I recently bought the Defy 3 2010, its lovely, looks great, beautifully put together the welding is perfect, my first road bike too!
Its a good choice as its very upgradable, the frame on the defy 3 comes with the carbon forks, and is exactly the same frameset as the defy 1 & 2. So you can pimp it out over time with higher end kit and wheels etc.
First thing I did however was change the brakes from the tekro ones to Shimano Ultegra SL (ebayed the Tekros), changed the pedals to Shimano 105 spd's, the ones that come with it are woeful. Also changed the saddle to a specialized toupe.
I'm from a mountain bike background, still am, and after some experimenting with bar/saddle/stem heights/angles etc have it just right for me and its a sweet ride. Feels fast, responsive gains admiringly looks from all, think thats down to the yellow/black colour scheme.
I would highly recommend it.I LOVE THE SMELL OF GT85 IN THE MORNING!0 -
Just bought the defy 3. Yellow and black........you either love or hate the colour. Me, I love it. Rides like a dream, done 400k on it with no problems. Would agree about the brake pads though, rubbish. Still not a major outlay to replace. Saddle also average. Apart from this, I'd recommend it........BRILL0

How much would it cost to change the brakes, including the fitting costs?
Is it worth looking at any 2009 models on a good deal? Still love the look of the Giant, yet to test it out yet...0
