Hello guys.
Right, my home insurance will only cover upto £100 per claim, seeing as my Bianchi cost £800 and my Rockhopper cost £700, then the other 2 bikes, this aint enough!
Looked at CTC insurance and that would be £70 for a year to cover just the Bianchi... good price? Any one got any other good companies?
Also, i read the small print and not sure if i read it right but read to me that the bike needs to be locked in teh garage? Is that normal? Do you lock your bike up in the garage? If so I have to buy one of the approved locks which cost a packet!
Any help plsss

Insurace for bikes is expensive. Your best bet might be to see if you can get covered on your house insurance as a special item, i.e an £800 bike.
I looked into this when i got my 'cycle to work' bike as it was a requirement of the scheme. The small print on the policies does indeed require you to lock your bike inside a secure building (so probably not a wooden shed!) with an expensive approved lock. IMO it is hard to see how your bike could be stolen in such circumstances.
On the other hand you would be covered if you were bikejacked.
I dont live in a city so i took the view that i would make sure that i locked my bikes up in the garage and i spent money on good locks.0 -
Mines with AXA - again no special locks needed, and cover includes accidental. Can't remember what the upper limit is, but I haven't had to specify individual bikesCarlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Cheers guys - M&S same qoute as present insurer who only provides £500 per bike.

Well thing is, at the moment I have moved back into my Mums house so have to live in the Garage and cant dictate to her what insurance co to go with. My house on the other hand, both bikes were tucked up in bed inside the house so didnt need insurance!!
It will be just my luck that some bugger will break into the garage and have a field day!!!
I dont mind paying a little extra for sole bike cover, but don't see what we have to follow such strict guide lines... expensive lock inside a locked garage locked to a secure object!!!
so are tehre any that are sole bike insurers that are not as tight as CTC?0 -

You might not be able to dictate to your mum over her insurer, but with that level of cover it makes me wonder just how bad the rest of the policy cover is. Time to suggest she checks & looks around.
As for you needing no insurance because your bikes are normally tucked up indoors, well, that's rubbish.
My cover for an extra £40pa for about £2000 was essential when I had a bit of an off and suffered £1200 damage while out on a gentle Sunday afternoon ride. It's not just theft you need to have cover for. There's no such thing as too old.0 -
+1 for M&S0
