456 v Blue Pig

Looking to buy a long travel HT steel frame to build a do it all trail bike (street, Peaks, Lakes, trail centres). I've had a 456 in the past and it was awesome with adjustable 130mm Revs. I'm thinking of the same again. However, along comes the Blue Pig from Ragley!
What are people's early impressions of the Blue Pig? It looks more freeride and burlier than the 456. But that's not a problem and the 0.15lbs in weight difference is negligable. It also states forks 140-160mm. For my riding adjustable 140mm is plenty. The Pig cost £260 and the 456 £125. (I just know someone's gonna say 'buy 2 456's')
!!
I wonder what your thoughts are given the choice of the two?

I'd want to try the Pig, the 456's a proven allrounder while the Ragleys are getting a rep for being better technical bikes and great descenders but maybe not as good allrounders. definatley wouldn't consider a slacker for this, I finally got a go on one and it was great, but I wouldn't want one for XC riding... I'd like to get one and build it up as a sledge thoughUncompromising extremist0

I met a guy up at laggen wolftrax at the weekend with a very well kitted out blue pig. he bought it just a couple of months ago and was very immpressed on how it handled on steep and technical terrain. however, like you are saying it's a more burly frame than the on-one. If you are thinking burly freeride hardtail then it might be more suitable than the 456 but it's a hard decision...0

Meh, too many orange 456's
Mines changed a wee bit from the photo: 150 Dual air Rev's, and oversize bars... Took it for it's maiden ride in the Peak on Jacobs ladder, bar me having to stop on the ladder with arm pump... But the bikes brilliant, bit light on the front so needs a comfy nosed saddle!

I've just swapped frames between a 456 and a Blue Pig. Ran the 456 wtih adjustable 130mm forks, and am running the Pig with 130s too, albeit different forks.
I loved my 456 to be honest. Would have kept the frame if it wasn't for the fact it had been battered stupid by chainsuck (me and previous owner)
I nearly bought another, but found a Blue Pig secondhand.
Have to say I'm very pleased. Seems to have all the good qualities of the 456 but also manage to be a better climber. I wouldn't start putting it into the freeride hardtail bracket though - seems to me that's where the mmBop goes?
I ride a lot of different stuff, and the Pig will be my general XC type bike (in between my full sus and my 100mm alu race bike)
Get one!0 -
The Mmmbop and Blue Pig have identical geometry, why would you put them into different niches? :?Uncompromising extremist0

Mmmbop has a 1.5" head tube and is stiffer than a stiff thing on a stiff day. Not sure if niche is the right word, but they are different.
And the mmbop is alloy. a friend of mine has just bought a 456 summer slacker to replace his Planet-X Armadillo. the pictures really don't do it justice - it really is VERY orange. very nice, tidy looking hardtail0 -

But they do the same thing :? Neither's a very sensible XC bike, but either one will be exactly as good as the other as a freeridey big-hitting hardtail.Uncompromising extremist0 -
I have a blue pig running 150mm U-turn revelations great bike!
Climbs great set to 120 then is the best descending hardtail at 150 I have ever ridden0
