Hope Hubs

As part of my decison process about new wheels in a recent thread, I emailed Hope about the reported issue with using a cassette without an alloy carrier on the Pro 2 hub. I have a Deore cassette which does not need changing yet.

To my surprise I got a phone call to my work phone (always gets put on my email footer) 5 minutes after sending the email
The chap explained that as long as it has a carrier (not separate sprockets) and is done up tight then there shouldn't be an issue. They specify alloy carriers as these aparently cause less damage when they are only nipped up and not done up tight. Basically covering themselves.

Bloody impressive response though, normally you email tech suppot or customer service for compnaies and you are lucky if you ever get a reply  Got to admire them on that :)

Just though it might be usefull info.

I never expect things like that, even exensive stuff sometmes has crap customer service.
Our policy is to give good quick support to our customers too but it seems quite rare.

They stick a note in the box too regarding this

  • i think i've mentioned this before, but I bought my first Hope brake about 10 years ago.

When I tried to set it up it just wouldn't work. When I described the problem over the phone to the Hope guys they told me that it sounded like I had pumped the lever without having the rotor in place. So they helpfully told me how to fix it.

Despite them talking me through it while I did it, I still couldn't get it to work.

So they told me not to worry, pop all the stuff back in the box and post it back to them.

It all arrived back within 3 days of me posting it out, with a hand written note inside telling me exactly how to install it and telling me just to give them a call in case I hit any more problems. They even threw in a spare set of pads and some stickers

Turns out I was just being a muppet and was in fact pumping the lever with no rotor in place!

I buy more Hope kit than anything else, and have done for 10 years.

I works well, it's designed well, it rarely goes wrong and if it does you have instant access to some extremely patient and knowledgable people who just want to help you. Needless to say, any "premium" that people consider is placed on Hope's products has been paid off a long time ago in the stress free life I've had using their stuff!
  • Just to point out that the main point of my post was the info about steel cassette carriers and the Hope Pro 2 hub, not just to big-up Hope. Not criticising other posters, just trying to re-balance the thread.
