how to start xc racing?

does anyone know how i can start xc racing?
also do i need to join a club to be able to race?
i am in southampton area so not sure where i will need to go or who i need to register with?

There should be some local races near you. Depending on how far you are willing to travel of course, there are a few in the New Forest and surrounding areas.
You don't need to join up with a club, but it can help for information and teams etc.

The Gorrick races aren't too far from you. They are running three enduro races over the winter, and their Spring Series of XC races starts in January.

That's interesting - do you not need a racing licence to compete in the UK? One-day licences maybe?0

I started racing about two and a half years ago and quickly got the bug. I have put together some pages which may help you prepare for your first race, I don't take it too seriously, but have had some decent results for an amateur...well I consider them decent ;-)
