Can anyone explain 1:1 actuation / 2:1 actuation and why 1:1 is better?

1:1 means that for every millimetre of cable the shifter pulls, the mech moves the same. 2:1 means that the shifter pulls 2mm for every 1mm of mech movement.
1:1 requires shorter lever throws and allegedly is more tolerant of poor setup.
In real life it makes sod all difference!0 -

Tother way round for Shimano - the shifter pulls 1mm of cable for every 2mm of mech movement ;-)0 -

Look out next year for Sonic Sramano gears - 2:3 actuation ratio for the best of both worlds!0
