    Afternoon Smudger,

Whereabouts? The peaks are full of great rails- goyt valley, edale, macclesfiled forest.
Can I recommend you look at bikemaps.co.uk? They have good maps covering the peaks with routes for all levels of expertise. There are a couple of books available too, i think they are called white peak and dark peak rides or something like that. Either way enjoy!

    :D

Loads of trails, get some maps to see the full extent. This site is very good, gives good routes and video of the trails...
Ladybower classic loop is a great intro to Dark Peak riding, a mixture of all you will come across in the Peak, and including IMO some of the best descents- 'Suicide Brake' (gores Heights, 'The Beast' and I love the drop down top the back of the Ladybower arms, but can't remember the name...

  • go and buy "mountain biking in the dark peak" by vertebrate graphics. It's the best money I've ever spent. The " white peak" one is good too but I'd stear clear of the white peak trails in the winter cos it gets a bit (lot) boggy.

The trails around Ladybower are magic and have something for everyone. Seriously rocky decents, interesting climbs nice pubs. etc blah blah.

Go and buy the book! I promise you won't regret it.
  • excellent - just ordered books - thanks for that

also what are your views on Cannock Chase - Going up with the wife and want to take her to a good trial centre on the Sunday to inspire some confidence. How muddy is it at this time of the year?
