i've just purchsed two so called " specialized carbon bottle cages " in blue from a guy on ebay.
after 2 weeks they arrived but to me they look like cheap plastic cages with a the specialized logo on and they dont feel like carbon.
because they have this blue glazed paint on them its hard to make out their carbon so is there a way i can check to see if they are ?.
i paid extra for carbon so if there not there going back asap.

CFRP is harder and stiffer than simple polymer, should be pretty easy to tell.

Why pay extra for carbon if you can't even see that its carbon? I mean for bottle cages, the weight saving is nominal and they are a lot more fragile so the only real reason for carbon cages is posing factor... (I have two by the way! )

im doing the bike up to sell on and it had a shitty bottle cage on, its a high spec bike and i thought i'd put carbon cages on it.

If I was looking to buy a used bike the LAST thing I would look at are the bottle cages. In fact, I probably wouldn't even notice them.

don't confuse carbon with carbon fibre...

I had a pair of Zefal 'carbon' cages on a bike years ago - they were effectively just plastic.....

Bottle cages are almost as personal as saddles and pedals...
If you're selling the bike, then best leave them off.

Weigh 'em. Specialized list the weight of their carbon and normal cages on their website. I think there's a mighty 5g difference or so! :)
