'While there is some pushing the mountain is mostly ridable' :)

Bit of an understatement there. I've walked up Cadair Idris more times than I care to recall and although the first part of the route described is OK-ish, the last part is a slog especially if the weather's crap which it usually is in that part of Wales. If you're thinking of going at Xmas/New Year (my favourite time to go) it is majorly cold on the summit of Cadair.

A friend has a holiday cottage in nearby Abergynolwyn and there is much better MTBing in the area. Only a stone's throw from Coed-y-Brenin, Machynlleth or if you want some proppa wild riding simply head East away from Cadair.

I know its close to plenty of trail centres etc but i've been to them all and thought cadair might be some thing different for a change. Thanks for advice about the weather, I've been up snowdon several times on bike in the snow and it does get bloody freezing especially coming down.
How does Cadair compare to Snowdon? more or less pushing? Is it as fun coming down? :D

First 3/4 (or more), no pushing. Last bit, quite a lot of pushing.
Never done Snowdon so can't compare.
Like they say , there is better riding in the area, but it's one of those things that has to be done.

MBR did a write up back in July/August time.

It's not on their website though.

So probably not a lot of help unless you can get hold of an old back issue.

Cadair should be pretty straightforward if you've cycled up Snowdon in winter. It's nowhere near as challenging and there's a cosy stone hut on the summit. If you're feeling adventurous you could cross the bwlch from the trig point, push up to Craig Cau and across to Mynedd Pencoed and then descend into the valley. There aren't any bridleways as such but there's a track that improves as it descends.
