Indeed your spelling is poor but that is beside the point; you must have an awful lot of time available!

The younger generation at work are just the same, they send similar spelling error letters out to clients.

Schools attitiude today is - screw basic English, do an easier course like how to make 100 babies and claim off the goverment.
  • Ah yes, bIoody hoodies, I remember, in my day........
Is that really the attitude schools take? When was the last time you were in a school? Do you have proof of this or did your brain just shart all over the thread.

Although FCJ, to be fair I don't know if you'd had a shandy or something last night but your posts were particularly bad.

The proof is in every forum and every office & work place you might care to visit. Its not just one person commenting on it either, its everyone who is seeing the English language being destroyed by lolz, wtf's etc, and anyone who can't be bothered to spell even simple words correctly. Obviously accidental spelling mistakes are different, there are probably a couple in this post, but consistantly shite spelling is just laziness.

That must make me an old man too, for having just a basic symathy for the English language?

Or for having a basic sympathy for spelling the word "sympathy" correctly perhaps?!

Proper schools have entrance exams to weed out the thickos. They then teach you how to spell and punctuate then rule the country   :lol:
  • Having basic sympathy for the English language has nothing to do with it.

I personally can't stand "Txt Spk" which is why I'm glad it's not used very often in these forums. My issue with what Briggo posted is that he made a rather sweeping generalization about "the younger generation" and the education system which was complete boIIocks.

The fact that all of Fourcrossjohns posts last night looked as though they had been written by a resus monkey using its feet is not symptomatic of a breakdown in the youth of today or the education system as a whole, it's symptomatic of the fact that Mr FC can be a bit of a tool sometimes.

Of course, your basic office monkey / teaboy may have the literacy skills of a 9yr old, this is not a new thing, office monkeys were the same 20 years ago on the YTS scheme, and they'll be the same 20 years from now. To tar all young people with the same brush is very short sighted.

I have worked with some truly exceptional young people, just as I've worked with some really moronic older people. Fact is, you get what you pay for. As the saying goes, "you pay peanuts, you get monkeys".

  • Just re-read that post and noticed the large number of references to monkeys. Odd.

    That is all.

4crossjohn - arent you doing work experience in a school at the moment? Hence why the future generations will have appaling spelling.

To be honest mine is also rubbish....but thats what happens when you rely on spellchecker etc.

At the end of the day its a forum not a exam......you type replys etc quickly because most of us are probably meant to be working..hence the mistakes.
  • i was in work experience for 2 weeks, i am now back to regular school

I have noticed a few newish BR users with utterly appalling spelling and grammar.

They always say it doesn't matter then bleat on about how unfair it is that someone gets paid more than them.

Typos are fine and expected - I make them too often because I'm not properly trained in typing. But some people here post such bad English that I give up reading their posts very quickly.

I think some people think it's "cool" to have dire spelling - like those kids who speak in a forced "black" London accent when they're white.

The message I get loud and clear is "I'm so intent on trying to be cool that I'm missing the fact that I look like a total retard."
  • i dont intentionaly type messily like this, i have a habbit of gliding my fingers over the wrong keys

The keyboard on my new work laptop is dire (only seems to happen with Dell and Acer), unless you are hammering the keys; half of them don't even register. I have found myself spending more time putting in missing letters than typing the posts in the first place!

When I am tired thogh I have found I miss a lot of the missing letters are missed :(
  • i have to be vused to many different keyboards and sometimes my fingers go into aout mode.

    hp keyboard (dad)
    sony vaio(me)
    samsung netbook (me)
    dell (sisters)
    accer, dell, logitech, belkin (school)

    :(

CWNT, a fair point, but i wasn't looking at just one persons spelling/grammar in regard to the generalization that young people can't read/write/speak properly, but my experience on forums/people I've met/hearing people speaking in the street etc... I see what you mean though, that one person isnt and indication of anything.

Love you last remark! Thats going in my sig!

Oh, and all those people blaming their keyboards, fat fingers, speed of typing... why dont you read what you have written before clicking submit?? :?

I would like to point out that I am not one of the poeple who doesn't type peoperly (at least I hope not), I was just stating that my keyboard is bad and I can miss some of the errors if I am particularly tired. Please read posts before making remarks like this, I would hate to have to quote myself to you

Wasnt pointed at anyone, no need to go on the defensive. There is a deference between making mistakes and just not bothering with basic forum etiquette which does bother some people (I guess i would include myself in 'some people' sometimes). Everyone makes mistakes, it is allowed. My point was just reading what has been typed before you submit it doesnt take long but makes alot of difference. Someone earlier even said they dont bother reading posts that are gibberish, I do the same occasionally as i find it hard to follow.

I dont think my statement you have quoted is unfair, it could be keyboards, or time restaints or...or...or...., fact is, if people re read their posts these situations wouldnt arise.

    :)
