Is a Colnago 2006 model still a good bike

I'm thinking about a Colnago Arte 2006, with Dura-ace groupset (fairly sure it's 10 speed)and FSA Force compact crankset - price £999

I've noticed that 2010 models are tending towards lower spec components and wonder whether this bike from 2006 (with 2006 versions of the components) is a good buy. The 2008 models are still about £1500 at Evans but I don't know anything about components from 4 years ago.

Any views on this?

The Dura Ace should be 10 speed as it was introduced in 2006.
TBH it looks a good buy (I'm assuming it's from Winstanley's) but don't know about the chainset.
I've not ridden one but if it's anything near as good as a Cannondale CAAD9 then it should be pretty damn fine.
Or you could just buy a Cannondale CAAD9...

I'd love a cannondale, but can't get one for my £1000(ish) limit. This is why I'm looking at older models from online retailers.

I'm also looking at Ebay but not sure about the 2nd hand market - no warranty etc...

There's actually a Bianchi Alu/Carbon (2008 - 105/ultegra mix) appeared on Evans site today at £699 that might be worth considering. How would the105/ultegra from 2008 compare to Dura-ace from 2006?

You should be able to, there are a load of 105 models for less than a grand at the moment...

I see a 105 triple on Evans site, but dont really want a triple chainset.

I'm thinking if the Colnago dura-ace is the same price at £999, it might still be the better buy - The Arte 2008 got a very good review. I'm very aware of the Caad 9 credentials as well though.

Or this Bianchi that's turned up could allow me to make a few upgrades with the £300 saving.

    Decisions.....

Any other thoughts on the Colnago - good buy or not?

Sounds to me that the Colnago is the bike you want, with a little justification
Unless someone gives a bad report I would say go for it.
But then again, I would say that, wouldn't I?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • for a grand you can't go wrong with that bike. dura ace alone costs more than that and despite all the 'claimed advances' it won't be nuch worse in terms of functionality than the 2009 version. just taken delivery of a C50 and its the dogs.

I'm still riding a 2001 Colnago...and I wouldn't go near a Bianchi - seen too many break to make me want to have one.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

You're right guys - I do want the Colnago, and basically wanted other people to tell me I should want it to help make the decision.

I can make all kinds of excuses for going for this or that bike instead and have also pissed about for quite a while becuase I'm enjoying the process of deciding which bike to buy.

Just need to take the plunge I think...and start riding

Will the Arte and dura-ace be OK for a first time road bike user like me, or is there anything about either that designed for a more experienced guy (I know the crank is a compact double which should be ideal).

Well assuming you want to ride on the road and I guess you are because you are in the Road section of the forum, then yes the Colnago will be fine, probably more than fine.

On and skip that rubbish posted above about a CAAD9, load of old pish, I think NapoleonD 'sleeps' with his
