I like to think I know a reasonable amount about changing a damn tube, but after last weeks shinanigans (with someone stepping/kicking my valve stem on my back wheel) and the 2 hours I took last week changing the tube and having a little clean up - only for the new tube to go flat within hours.

Not happy.

I bought a set of new tubes but thought "why waste a new one, patch up the old one first and try it out." I also bought a bit of rim tape, as when I changed the tube last week some kind of rim-patch must have come off - part of the rim tape already on the open pros seemed to have been torn around one of the spoke screws (perhaps for late adjustment in shop). The new innertube I put in last week had expanded into said "dip" and managed to snag.

So yesterday I finally had a bit of time and put a patch on the snagged tube, installed it, pumped it all up... everything was fine late last night when I went off to bed, but this morning I discovered as soon as I awoke and went to get the bike sorted that the &^*%ing thing was flat again...

Grrr...

Get home, take it apart again only to find that the glue is a bit old and naff on the patch. Said patch hasnt stretched like it should either and a little air is escaping from newly formed creases.

I'm hoping that I have finally sorted it now. I think I'll seriously lose my rag if I find another flat within the next few days. :?

Gawd that was a trundle writing all that.

I feel your pain!! On Saturday I had a bit of a drama with flats myself. I get a split inner tube near Catford, and can't patch it because the split is too long and under a patch. Then find out my spare inner tube has a massive hole worn in it. Game over I think, then I realise there's a Halfords about a mile and a half away. Walk there, and they don't have any presta 406 inners, but luckily the chap there told me about Compton Cycles just up the road, and they did. Bought two inners there, sorted myself out and left for the park again. Then get another puncture during the day. Fix that after work, leave and get home, and get another puncture. Gah!!!

Seems to come in spates doesnt it.

I tried to get some decent 700c inners from Halford on saturday but they had none for anything under 35s  That would be a bit tight in 23 tyre, LOL!

Your recumbant takes special sized tyres doesnt it?

Yeah, 406 on the front, 571 on the rear. I had to put in some BMX inners, 406x32-47. Luckily not a problem squeezing those in on the 28 I have in the front.
