the other day i went to post a letter for my mum on my spare hack bike (flat pedals), its the first time iv ridden it since getting spd's on my main bike, iv been loving the spuds, but i found that i was incapable of riding the flats, i have DMR v8's and super taky soled fox shoes, so grip aint the problem, (infact i remember thinking that i had awsome grip when i always rode flats) but ,mty feet were sliding all over the place, comming of the pedals when i tried to pedal in anything other than a relaxed sitting down cruise. and while i used to be able to bunny hop 6-7 inches on flats, my feet came right off the pedals. it was actually scary, i was strugaling to ride in a straight line!
have you got any tips for getting my flat confidence back? its ridiculus!

  • Practice, and perhaps leave it until the summer or a least dry conditions? I tried my waffle sole vans and V8s the other day and grip was a bit lacking in the wet.

been through the same thing and TBH it is all there is to do.

Like you say you could do it before so it is not like you need to learn anything is it.

just go play in the street/park/school

Flat pedals suck. I've been using SPDs for so long I simply cannot use flat pedals.

SPDs made you forget how to ride a bike. Seems like the best reason ever to stay clear from them
  • ^^^ exactly, i have spd on my fixie for safety reasons. But everything else i run flats on, i'm just so much more confident in the air on them.

Both sorts are awesome and both have their place. Get used to riding both, you'll be a better rider for it.

If you can't bunnyhop on flats, you can't bunnyhop.
  • I had to use flats on a training course earlier this year. So I decided to switch to them a week or two before the course to get used to them. It does take a little time so I wouldn't worry about it.

I ended up running the flats for about 5 weeks. I may do that again next Spring as it seemed to help me to improve bike skills in general.

OK, i can ride, i am a decent rider (IMO) and i can bunny hop on flats, and i think i forgott how to use flats as i ride an awful lot, and get used to stuff very quickly. anyway, thats all the doubters blown away, any tips on how to get used to flats again ( i say again as iv ridden flatts for 2 years, and conqured many, many trails in them.) and im not switching back, i love the extra control, and i have more confidense in the air.
