Have a read of the fork guide in the FAQ.
  • what frame? Will you be able to go to the full travel? If out and out xc then go for the air ones, they're a fair chunk lighter.

I'm another one that's confused by the huge variety of forks available. I've read the FAQ and although I understand what the physical difference between forks are I don't know how this translates into what's used when.

Are air shocks more suited to a more gentle style of riding ? If you plan to get a bit more adventurous then should you go coil spring ? Is there any difference in life expectancy of the forks or does one need more frequent servicing ? When do you need dual air over solo ? The questions seem never ending !!

I realise there's never going to be a definitive answer as to what's best and that personal preference is going to have a lot to do with it but it'd be great if someone could some up the pro's and con's of the different types or do an idiot's guide.

    Cheers
