BREAKFAST
mulit grain cheerios 1 cup = 8grams sugar
1 cup fat free milk = 11 grams sugar
LUNCH
peanut butter=2grams sugar
jelly=0 grams sugar
2 pieces wheat bread= 5grams sugar
3/4 cup low fat yogurt=12grams sugar
1/4 cup granola=7 grams yogurt
propel to drink= 4 grams sugar
DINNER
Ham= 2grams sugar
2 pieces wheat bread = 5grams sugar
miracle whip= 1 gram sugar
cheese= 1 gram sugar
Salad(lettuce only)= 0 grams sugar
spritz italian dressing= 2 grams sugar
apple medium size= 18 grams sugar
propel to drink= 4 grams sugar
and of course bottles of water periodically throughout the day.
now my sodium calories and fats are all perfect. however if you add up all that sugar there (82grams) you will see that is a LOT of sugar considering i am eating healthy. what can i do to change this??? i cant believe all milks (vitamin d, 2%, 1% fat free, skim) all have 11 grams of sugar and soy/goat makes me sick. thanks!

If that's seriously your diet, then the 82g of sugar should be the last of your worries!!! You've not got a healthy diet in my book...
Forget about counting macronutirents & calories, simply eat a diet that emphasises complex carbohydrates and minimises added fat. Essentially, this means lots of fruit and veg and lots of plant-things (beans, rice, lentils...) with as little processing as possible, and meat and dairy to a minimum. Your diet consists largely of processed foods and hardly any fruit or veg. This should be your biggest worry.
Also, if you're riding, that looks seriously light on calories to me - I'd be ravenous if I ate that!0 -
agree with the above. you also seem to be confusing naturally occurring sugars like fructose, with processed cane sugars.
You say you are 'eating healthily' - it doesn't look like it to me...0 -
eat ham n eggs.0

That's the kind of diet I'd expect a 14 year old boy to eat if his mum didn't make him eat his veg.

Haven't you heard of sugar free jelly? :?
Peanut butter can be fine in a healthy diet (decent quality for a high nut percentage). Yes, it is relatively high in fat but it is 'good' fat which the body needs. Agree on the Cheerios though, out of all the cereals available that would be one of the last I would go for. Porridge oats or a whole grain wheat cereal would be far better. Plus, as others have said, more fruit and veg needed. Fruit is high in sugar but fructose rather than refined glucose or sucrose.
I'm currently on a diet that has been put together by a friend of mine who's a bodybuilder and advises on nutrition for a supplement manufacturer. It's great after unsuccessfully trying a similar attempt at counting calories and fat grams as the OP. I still get to eat plenty but more protein than I used to, trying to get my carb input early in the day (obviously more carbs on the days I'm riding). Pretty much as much fruit and veg as I like. Incidentally, cashew nuts or peanut butter are among the items that features quite highly on my meal plans albeit in fairly small amounts. Most importantly I have a cheat day where I can eat what I want0 -
52, Steak and chips twice a week, beer and scotch at will!! 80kg, 15.6% body fat, 4.6 cholesterol. You really need to eat better than that.....

When they said jelly i assumed, jam, marmalade that kinda thing. And ive never seen or heard of sugar free jam. Itd be impossible surely? thered be some form of it, Fructose, Scurose, or glucose or something.0 -

I'm not vegetarian or anything (ask my gf, I'm distinctly a carnivore!) but don't go wild on a high-protein diet, particularly if that protein is coming from animal products. (A bodybuilding friend used to drink multiple litres of milk a day and be fond of 6-egg omelettes with a chicken breast on top... I know how these people can think sometimes!!!). There's quite a large body of scientific evidence (which you or your friend may be aware of - apologies if this is the case!) that links high animal protein consumption with significantly increased rates of cancer and heart disease, among others.0 -

You have waayyy too much time on your hands. Eat more, drop your chain into 53/11, cut the cable and train flat out. :roll:0 -
This is cycling by numbers; it doesn't work. It's supposed to be an enjoyable activity.
Cut out the Cheerios - that's toddler food for hard of understanding teenage mothers, swap it for real porridge and not the pre-weighed portion in a pack just add milk & microwave for 2 minutes stuff, and stop obsessing.
And get some veg in your life if you really are concerned about being healthy. Veg is the start point. Carrots, peas, cabbage, broccoli, anything, just eat veg as part of a main meal at least once a day. You'll notice much more improvement compared with losing 22 grams of sugar.0 -
5 items of Fruit and Veg a day is a minimum, not a maximum
1. Salad(lettuce only)= 0 grams sugar
2. apple medium size= 18 grams sugar
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?
It's better to aim for more.
(It might just be a urban myth but i heard that origionally the target was going to be set at 7, but they thought this was to hard, and dispiriting for most people to achieve)blog: bellevedere0 -

What, 5 grains of rice?0

18g from an apple. Ccut out that and you have saved almost 25%. You need to stop eating fruit altogether.
Not. Don't be silly. Your diet doesn't sound balanced at all.I'm left handed, if that matters.0 -
me thinks is a plss take, see some of drizzles other posts:
im new to the biking world and am looking to make my first bike purchase. and although i know fit is the most important feature, out of these 2 bikes which do you guys prefer and why???? big emphasis on the why part. thanks so much to everyone who responds! 22oct09
im a roadie and i have used both cycleops trainers. the magneto which runs on magnents and the fluid which obv runs on fluid. the as far as ride quality goes both are identical as far as i am concern and i have logged plenty of miles on them. the fluid however is a little quieter, allows for a little more resistance, and of course costs more. the magneto however although slightly louder is cheaper. both have lifetime warranties which is good. if it were me i would buy the magneto unless i just had an abundance of money to blow. good luck 05nov090 -

Don't worry, I'm not a big meat eater to be honest. Most of the protein will come from fish, cottage cheese, natural yoghurt, pulses and veggiesWhen they said jelly i assumed, jam, marmalade that kinda thing. Hmmm, you may be right but as I'm a Brit I take jelly to be the wobbly stuff you get with ice cream as a kids parties. Jam and marmalade are preserves in my dictionary0
