Iljo Keisse
This should probably be in the track section, but not sure anyone goes there.
I thought he would be banned for his positive test after winning last year's Ghent 6, but he was riding at the Revolution in Manchester last weekend (and looked pretty good - won the scratch race). Does anyone know why he is not banned though?
Cheers

No- I thought he was banned as well.
could it have been a very short ban?0 -
Woudl have to be less than a year as Ghent was not that long ago...
IIRC he tested positive for something that was not a PED but could be used to mask one.0 -
He was cleared:

He tested positive for cathine and hct and used the tried-and-tested "food supplement" defence, although the manufacturer of the supplement was a little surprised he got off, because tests showed that their products contained neither substance:

He was also allowed to compete after the positive but before he was cleared, which was odd. I dunno what that was about.0 -
Groan.
Someone remind me why I follow this sport.0 -
I dunno what that was about.
Money, plus friends in the right places most likely.0 -

No doubt, but it's extremely unusual.0 -

The positif in the 2008 Gent Six Day race from Belgium's number one Six Day man, Iljo Keisse, has been dismissed on the grounds of 'insufficient evidence.' "CATHINE WAS NOT FOUND IN THE 'B' SAMPLE and HCT was there in quantities so small as to have no effect on performance." Pez was granted the first face to face interview with Iljo, after the result was announced.

Thank you for correcting the other posters lucybears. He was cleared, that's why he didn't get a ban.0

Thanks for the answers!0

In theory even if banned he could ride in the Revolution surely, as it's not a UCI or BC sanctioned event, in effect it's an exhibition.
Was a good interview on Pez btw.0 -

Didn't Tyler Hamilton get into strife for attempting to ride in a series of unsanctioned races before his ban ended?
IIRC, USA Cycling threatened to invoke a little-used rule whereby all the other UCI license holders entered in the race could be sanctioned. The details are a little hazy...

Edit: Here we go: http://velonews.com/article/9623
Pro riders can be banned for 30 days for entering unsanctioned races, but the rule hardly enforced and was only enforced that time because it involved Tyler H.0 -
Yeah I nearly mentioned the Hamilton case in my earlier post, but my memory was a bit hazy. Thing is would the Revolution's count, as they're essentially just exhibition events?
I don't think for a minute it'd happen though, but interesting to theorise.0 -

They're still sanctioned by BC though, aren't they? I'm not sure.0
