If you have a car Gisburn forest is about 30-40 mins drive. Search for it on here, there's loads of stuff.
You could also look around the Bog Trotters website, or even contact them.

Hope you like mud though because it's absolutely saturated round here and the forecast isn't too good.

No worries Gaz - post details of the routes here if they are any good. Then I can try them!

Given the weather I'll be heading for the Dales this weekend - the limestone bedrock allows it to drain reasonably well so there should be less water lying about.0

If you have a car you are less than 10-20 mins from lakes and the dales=WIN WIN STUATION0

cheers for the replies, only saw them this morning. i ended up doing a 23m loop on the Howgill Fells on sunday.
parked at Sedbergh then climbed up to The Calf (thats a cheeky climb, but the 30mph tail wind helped ) then descended out of the cloud down to Bowderdale, before heading east to Ravenstonedale.
heading south from here i was riding into the gusting wind that was so helpful on the first leg, i appreciated the fact the climb was on tarmac, as the legs were feeling it now.
after flanking Wandale hill, it was simply a case of following the River Rawthey until hitting tarmac again and heading west back to Sedbergh and the warmth of the car. phew that was a tough one.
probably rained for about 80% of the ride, but as usual after a couple of mins in it, got used to it.
the wind was the main enemy (well, when i was riding into it!!), so it was steady spinning for the south leg
the trails weren't in to bad a condition considering the recent weather in the area. slippery and boggy in quite a few places, but certainly rideable. these conditions really test your riding skills!
will definatly go back for another blast (only took an hour and a half from Manchester), reckon it would be great route in drier conditions, probably get some good views on a clear day too.
Compo - yeah i had a car mate, definatly a win win situation. loads of choices from there.
Dave- did you have a good one mate? where did you end up?
ElCani- i had a good ride even in those conditions, so can recommend the route although drier conditions would probably make it a flyer. if you do go in bad weather just bear in mind you peak at about 650m and your completely exposed, so plenty of warm gear.
Cheers
