Any ideas? I was thinking the planet x sl pro sram red build for £1599... Not sure what the weight is exactly though..
I'm looking at off the shelf bikes only... :) help!

The boardmans at £1599 seem to be very light, too. But you wont get RED.

You have named the best value option by far.
  • probably a carbon fibre singlespeed.
  • I've got the Planet-X sl Carbon pro built up with 10spd campag centaur from a few years ago so no carbon levers and a square taper bottom bracket, campag proton wheels and palnet-x own brand bars, stem, seatpost and it comes in comfortably under 18lbs (no pedals, that gives you a true comparison with advertised bike weights).
A new chainset, better tyres and tubes, stem, bars and seatpost and I would think that the weight would come down further. I did buy the black one though so I obviously saved huge amounts of weight from not having to haul all that heavy paint around.

And instead are hauling a whole extra layer of cosmetic carbon fibre
    Trek Madone 6.5 Pro
    Planet-X (now winter-bike)
  • Yes, but carbon fibre is sexy. If they made a red version i'd have bought that as red bikes are faster...

    How light are you?

Maybe you don't have to fo carbon and you could shave off a few pounds instead?

boardman dont have a cosmetic cf weave. theyre raw carbon. better for seeing damage as well.
  • 10st and a halfish. And don't get all Kate Moss on this...

I was only jesting and you're pretty light anyway by the sounds of it.

  • Indeed, whoever said "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" has never had baked beans on doorstep toast and a pint mug of tea thick enough to stand the spoon upright in at the far end of a long ride..
Whichever bike the OP goes for I'm pretty certain he/she will get a bike anyone would have been able only to dream of even 10years ago (and still have enough spare change for a baked beans on.. etc).

Beans and tea described to perfection!!!... At the moment it looks like a planet x sl pro with sram red for £1599... :D
  • I think you'll be getting a top notch bike for the cash. I've had my SL Pro since may and have had a great time on it...
  • Is the Planet X SL Pro SRAM Red down at the 6.8kg UCI weight limit?
