cycling across ped crossings

I go through an area where there's quite a meeting of roads and three pedestrian lights.
I tend to stick to the left side whilst waiting for the lights to change or if a cyclist is waiting I slot in on the left behind them.
but what I have noticed is cyclist on the other side going to their right.
so when the change happens there always the thought of 'where is he/she going to go?'.
is there a protocol to the ped lights that I have missed?
is the left side for peds waiting at lights?

Not to sure I understand what you mean.
The way I'm understanding it is that you arrive at a red pedestrian light and wait on the left hand side of the lane.
When other riders arrive they wait to your right?
Or do you mean cyclist coming the opposite direction?0 -
I tend to just hop off the bike and push it over the pedestrian crossing and re-mount the other side.0

Think we need a google street view link."Encyclopaedia is a fetish for very small bicycles"0 -
I'm guessing the OP means cycling across a Toucan crossing - the ones that allow cyclists to use them alongside peds.
In which case surely the cycling on the left rule applies just the same as in any other situation? Otherwise we'll all just end up getting in each others' way.0 -

I have wondered if it's down to wanting to press the crossing button with their right hand, which is pointless cause the lights are not triggered by peds anyways.
oh well - so long as I am not missing an unwritten rule.0
