I can never remember how that goes. Possibly because I rarely take the pedals off.
In any case one is a left hand thread and one is a right hand thread.

It's the opposite direction to the way you took the drive side off... The direction the pedal turns when you're pedalling tightens the pedal spindle - so you need to turn the opposite way to remove.

With the bike upright on it's wheels - the spanner goes towards the rear of the bike ON BOTH SIDES (so drive side is conventional - anti-clockwise to loosen, but non-drive side is clockwise to loosen - but still turning towards the rear of the bike)

Please say I've got that the right way round after all that!

thanks guys. i decided to give up after a few attempts so thankfully the guys at CRC got it out for me with no damage. tho should have seen my face (went from melancholy to big grin) when he said (slight paraphrase) sorry the pedal is seized into the crank couldnt get the pedal off, youll need a new a crank, while he was hiding the pedal in his hand and then showed to me. i was so worried.
  • I bruised one of my wrist bones trying to get a pedal off for a customer. Using an old set of straight bars for extra leverage, felt that the pedal would round off before coming off. Left it at that
