Hey guys and girls.
Ive recently upgraded my rear mech to a Shimano Alivio 8 speed. Ive adjusted my chain as im running a 38 tooth single ring at the front.
The problem im having, is when the chain is on the largest gear on the cassette the chain is creaking.
does anyone have any idea's?
thanks
Paul

is it really the chain?
connected correctly.
Lose chain rings? lose crank arm?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Crank arms are nice and tight. only fitted them at the weekend. Not entirely sure on chain rings. How do i check those?
Im sure everything is nice and tight as i had no problems until i put the new rear mech on.
Its all adjusted correctly and changes up and down nicely and doesn't hesitate or run past. So just a bit stumped. It sounds like the rear mech isnt set up like its wanting to jump out of gear but its fine though the gears and no worries.0 -
ok back to the start.
what have you done?
new what parts? replace what etc etc."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

ok so. . .
I replaced the rear mech. for new. A shimano Alivio 8 speed.
I had the crankset off to clean up along with the front ring and chain guard.
Nothing else has been removed or replaced. Thats why im confused.0 -
OK.
so the possible problem areas are the chain rings/guard as you have replaced them.
the crank fitting on the BB. see above.
the chain join as you shortened it.
or IF the chain is very worn and as the chain ring is new it is been forced to shrink on the ring.
replace the chain and see."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Ok. Cool.
Ill try the chain. It might need lengthning. If so ill just get a new one.
thanks for your help0
