Why pay the builder in cash?

    usually cheaper...

why would that be? You weren't trying to defraud the taxman (ie me, you and every other honest taxpayer) were you?
Eh? It is the responsibility of the person receiving the money to pay their taxes, it is not the business of the person paying for a good or service.
Sorry to hear about your loss sem69.

I don't think the Revenue would take the same view. If you enter into a transaction where you know that a fraud on Customs and Excise or HMRC is being commited then you too are guilty of an offence. Sorry don't have the authority to hand. I suspect the builder would not be providing a legitmate invoice for his services or a proper receipt for payment as he won't be putting it through his accounts  !

You wouldn't be an Irish .............. builder by any chance  ????
Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......
half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.
