its not actually possible is it?
ive got maybe 4/5's of the tyre on and thats it - there's maybe two inches to push the tyre up onto the rim and its absolutely solid. No way am i shifting it with my thumbs and I'm not even making any progress with spoons
un-effing-believable

It should be a sticky. Which tyre works with which rim. In fact it should come as a warning on tyres and rims.
Something to consider if you cant do it now in a warm house with plenty of time then how are you supposed to do in the rain on the side of the road?
Sell one of them!0 -
MTFU!
Pro races on campag wheels are pretty tough tbh, they are on my zondas but doable.
Just hope you dont puncture one cold, wet sunday morning0 -
Yeah, tbh, I'd always thought that people were just having a moan about tough tyres on rims - they werent trying hard enough or they had a poor technique. Looking at this though, its like tryign to get a 26" tyre onto a 700cc rim; damn thing is just absolutley nowhere near fitting.
And, yep, the cold sunday morning or even trying to get a decent time half way through the marmotte, was on my mind. Its game over if you puncture.
All of a sudden tubs seem incredibley practical...0 -
I can fit PR3s to Shamals using finger pressure only. Talc the inside of the tyres to prevent them sticking to the rims.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
-
Tried soapy water already... Don't think talc is any different?0
-
Word of warning. Prorace 3s are good gripy tyres until you get to a cattlegrid - particularly the ones built with what looks like old railway track - on a misty morning. You could end up with a split nose and chin in no time.0
-
Husband spent ages last night putting PR3s on his Shamals - actually, he said getting them off was worse. He's put Ultremos on now!0
-
I'm still sticking to my earlier comments - the same goes for Fulcrum 2-way fit rims. The problem with soapy water is that make it harder to get any purchase on the tyre.
Finally, absolutely no tyre provides any grip on wet cattle grids IME - you have to take them square on without any lean. I absolutely loathe uphill grids in the wet - particularly the ones with round bars. The one at the bottom of Hardknott in the rain is a pig - you have to pedal like crazy to build-up enough speed to freewheel across.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
I got PRO-3s on Fulcrum 3s (not sure if they are simlar to Shamals) without too much problem. Had to use levers. Once they've been on I dont think they are as difficult next time.Pegoretti

I've got Pro Race 3's on my Campag Eurus wheels. They were a real bugger to get on (warmed on radiator, talc and a Crank Brothers speed lever). I was out on them a week later and punctured in the pouring rain and was really surprised to find that they were easily removed and more remarkably went back on without problem so don't be too worried about puncturing as they seem to stretch a bit when on the wheel.
Good luck with getting them on in the first place though0 -
I have got PR3s on my Neutrons. TBH I have found all tyres a complete nightmare with these wheels compared to my Mavics. The trick I found which makes things slightly easier was to change the rim tape to a thinner type. Not sure if you can do that with Shamals though!Mañana0

Got to be honest, this thread does make me feel a little better about my frustrating experience of fitting PRO3's on Campy rims! Absolute nightmare.
+1 re using talc, give it a try.0 -
I'll say it again. DO NOT use talc, washing up liquid, special levers or voodoo, if you can't get the tyre on by using your fingers alone then the tyre does not fit, end of! Go and get a new tyre or new rim. It is not worth the hassle and pain when there are loads of quality tyres and rims that do fit together.0

As you've probably worked out, when you push the tyre in with a lever from one side, it can be forced out of the rim on the opposing side, so suspend a tyre lever inbetween the tyre/rim on one side of the remainder of the tyre while pushing with the other. Place the wheel between your legs so the gap where you will stick the "pushing" lever in is at the 3 o'clock position (to someone watching from your right) and hold the wheel there firmly with your knees. Grip the tyre lever and rim with one hand while you insert the second lever at the 3 o'clock position. Hold the first one still while pushing down with the second. You can put a lot of body weight on it this way. If all else fails, get someone else to apply extra force to your hands as you're pushing. It should then give way.
Getting them off will be easier, once you've managed to get the second tyre lever in, which is by far the most difficult part.
Another nightmare combo is Vittoria Rubino 19-23mm tyres and any of the Mavic Cosmic rims. :shock:0 -

Sounds like a complete faff to me. Why bother getting wheels you can't put your fave tyres onto? I use Pro Race 3s on all sorts of wheels and had no bother in the past. None of them are campag of course .....0

First set of Pro race 3s on shamals went on fine. I recently replaced the rear with a new one and I found it a challenge, but with a little patience it went on using thumbs. I suspect manufacturing tolerances probably played a significant part in this.I ache, therefore I am.0

And to think all those company's making tyre levers when they should never be used.
Pro race 3 are tight but once you got them on once and fully inflated they come off and go back on again with a lot less hassle.
i'd sooner a tyre was a little tight than a little lose when taking a downhill bend at 40mph0 -
Now read my post again and tell me where I said that tyre levers should NEVER be used?
You need tyre levers to get the tyre off, absolutely no question. YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TYRE LEVERS TO GET THE TYRE BACK ON.
Good for you on having a tight tyre when taking your 40mph bends and good luck on getting it off when it's dark wet and p..ing down or good luck carrying your talk, washing up liquid and tool kit when you puncture and want to get it off.
Funny that I have tyres that fit PROPERLY on the rims, that don't come off on 40mph bends and I can get off in seconds in the rain and dark with a tiny bit of effort. So hey ho, you want to make life difficult for yourself then carry on 'cause I'm out of the tyre conversations, I've tried to point out there is an easier way.0
