Close Call

Had this morning what can only be discribed as a close call.
Cycling back in what can only be disccribed as windy conditions when I was cycling towards the swing bridges in Exeter when I was caught by a gust of wind which sent flying into the wall of the bridge.
The next thing I know I'm waking up with two paramedics standing over me. apparently I had been knocked out cold (thankfully actually wore my helmet today) but no other injuries. an hour or so in hospital and I was given the all clear and sent home. One of the ambulance crew was even lovely enough to take me and the bike home as his shift had ended. (also the advantage of wearing your ambulance service ID card)
Back at work tonight by driving in.
Most importantly the bike is ok, it seems it was a simple bail and my head just took the impact, so nothing vitally important.
The only slightly spooky thing was the fact that when I woke up the music playing on my ipod was that really awful Madonna song which she did for the Bond film, Die Another Day

Glad you are ok Ngale.0 -
Glad you're alright. I hate it when cycling in gusty winds. Gale force and generally I take the damn bus as theres too many bridges to climb. Drivers also dont realise that a gust can send you out by a couple inches to a couple of feet in really bad conditions, so close overtakes take on a whole new dimension. :?
I see no one's asked - hows the bike?Sorry, just kidding.

Glad you're ok. At least you don't have deep rims - you'd have been over the bridge and away before you knew it...

Wow take it easy girl, no point getting killed.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -
Oh and I'd add that I'd call that a "call" rather than a "close call"0

Glad you're ok.Food Chain number = 4
A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -
Luckily the wind was with me for most of the ride into work this morning and only against me for the last 1.5 miles.
As a papramedic I'm surprised you ride with music in your ears, you have to pick up the pieces when it goes wrong. I've ridden with music on but not on the roads and not at a loud level.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Ouch, Ngale, I hope that you don't have too much of a sore head this evening. Less of a close call than an even closer wall, by the sound of it.0

Redvee: I work in the control room, nothing as fancy as a paramedic
I was at the time on the cycle path which runs next to the road which is seperated by a metal barrier. Thankfully I was thrown into the wall rather than the barrier as I would have gone over the top of it and into the road.
Yep I do losten to music on my bike, but never very loud and only in one ear (being on an iPhone I have that just in case of calls) I don't listen to music if I am on actual roads. I agrree with you that would be a bit daft.
Anyway yep sore head, but in work tonight so not too much damage there thenOfficers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -

Yep something of an irony that.
Surprisingly in my life I have never had any surname related nicknames.Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -
Saw one of the Casualty paramedics getting on her bike leaving the set this afternoon, was the girl who rides with Dixie, can't remember her character or real name though.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
