Helmet confusion

I have been borrowing a hlemet for my commute ot work over the last 4 months, bog standard run of the mill bike helmet. Im looking to get a new one now I have some spare funds after kitting out on everything else.

To be a little differnt I like the Giro Flak helmets. However my question is, why are they so much cheaper than normal style helmets, asre they much heavier? Are they as safe?

The flak is a bmx/dirt jump helmet - and fairly heavy duty because of it...

If you're trying the helmets on for fit - surely you'll notice the difference in weights ?
