In my local on the principle of the massive price hike.
Guinness has gone up from £2.25/pint to £2.90/pint.
I appreciate this is not the most extortionate price in the world and is cheaper than most people from daughn sarff already pay. It's the %age price hike that's causing offence.
I'm not on my own either, those in the pub who drink it regular all seemed to be "boycotting" it aswell.

I've pretty much stopped drinking in pubs thanks to the 5p that goes on a pint every 6 months!
When I started going to pubs ( a mere 10 years ago) I could get a pint of the local brew (Jennings, brewed no more than 200 meters from any of the towns pubs) for £1.65. Now it's £2.40. If I want some of my favoured Belgian tippple it's £3.55!
I can get Duvel in the supermarket for £1.70 a bottle and found a website that will ship all manner of Belgian brews to my door for about £2.00 a bottle.
So, another hearty thanks to the labour government, you killed pubs too!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Here in Kerry it's €3.80 for a pint of Guiness or €4 for a Heineken.
You don't know you're born.
Cheers

Eh? How did it get to be the government's fault that pubs keep putting their prices up. I know there's a duty on alcohol, which increases a bit each year....but it's not 5p every 6 months and it doesn't explain the price hike in the OP!0 -
FtT - Yeah, it's a large % hike but unless I couldn't afford it, I'd wouldn't ruin a few pints by having something else tbh."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

Eh +1. Annual duy rises are a tiny part of the picture. The consumption of alcohol at home, the commercial relationship between brewery and landlord, sale of pubs for conversion to houses and the smoking ban are all relevant (that last one was this govt but how can that be bad legislation?)
I think sicknote meant 4 or 5 a week? If so that's the trend.Where the neon madmen climb0 -

Number of factors. As you say, duty is on an escalator, that puts a couple of pence on a pint each year. Secondly, banning smoking from pubs has reduced their takings. Some people want to smoke with a drink, so they'll stay home and do it more cheaply. That silly law about needing an entertainment license to play recorded music in your pub and others like it have increased the cost base pubs need to claw back from their customers, pushing up the prices further. The brewery's costs have increased as well due to increased utility costs, price of hops has just about doubles (admittedly I can't put that on McBroon)"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
