A guy that I used to train with used to take supplements to speed up muscle repair, which would allow him to train more frequently as his muscles could recover quicker.
Has any one ever come across this, and if so...
a. What was the stuff called?
b. Is it any good, or just Holland and Barrett marketing crap?

Just purchased some Maxi Muscle Promax, £25 from Decathlon, not sure how they sell it so much cheaper than anywhere else?
Anyway, meant to help me recover but don't know if it works yet, ask me when I'm doing my 170th mile for the week this friday0 -
I have used All sport Amino load for this before
Does it work? It helps recovery but I am not a scientist so all I can say is it works for me

Thanks for the replies.
But the stuff this guy used to take was in tablet form (a bit like glycosamine), I just can't remember what it was called.I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they have such great ideas0 -
Supplements are there to supplement, you'd be better off with a balanced diet, drinking lots of water and getting a lot of sleep.
Supplements are for when you gone as far as you can with those things.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Plain old milk is good for muscle repair. Milkshake even better. Contains all the proteins and whatever. I go hillwalking regularly and since I started having a pint of milk/milkshake at the end of the day (as soon as poss after finishing exercise) the muscle pain and stiffness the next day has decreased dramatically.0

I reserve the fancy recovery drinks (the ZipVit quick and overnight recovery ones seem to do the trick) for after long, tough rides or interval sessions. Protein/carbs soon after exercise is supposed to help a lot.0 -

After a strenuous ride, I take a bottle of chocolate milkshake and 2 big spoonfuls of MTFU!Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

It's most likely to be either L-Glutamine (helps rebuild muscle mass after strenuous exercise) and/or Creatine which helps build new muscle mass and sustains existing muscle.
They can help (that is they work) under the right conditions.0 -

Unfortunately, the supplements only help if you are actually exercising and eating a balanced diet. Eating only pizza, beer and partying all night + no actual exercise = no gain from supplements and is just a waste of cash.0 -

Are there any supplements to boost your sense of humour ? :PI know the voices in my head aren't real, but they have such great ideas0 -
Supplements, when coupled with a healthy diet will help you build muscle. Muscles grow though being damaged and then repaired so bodybuilders are lifting to the point of micro muscle damage which is then repaired using protein from their diet and supplements. However, if you are eating a crap diet, then putting supplements on top won't help with anything.
I think, however, the OP s talking about DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) which is when your muscles feel sore the following day. There isn't a lot you can do about this since no-one rally knows what causes it. DOMS doesn't effect your muscle power or enducance, it just feels sore. Best thing you can do is drink lots of water to flush the lactic acid and keep yourself hydrated.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX
