Convex wheel rims

I have a pair of Campagnolo Vento wheels 3 years old which have done maybe
7500 miles roughly

A young chap at a LBS shop has told me rims need replaced as they have become convex in shape.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct or hopefully just a stunt to sell you a new pair of wheels you do not need.

Thanks

If they are noticeably convex, the young lad is probably right that they are at the end of their life.

Have you measured the rim wall thickness?

does that mean they are dangerous or slower or.....?

I had a 4yo Vento on the back of my winter bike which I have just retired because of a worn rim. The danger in letting the rim wear thin is that tyre pressure will cause it to blow out suddenly, not a pretty situation while you are riding it.

shouldn't that be concave - not convex...??

I've had a rim blow out when riding. Not a lot of fun, especially if the tyre proceeds to get wrapped up in the fork - you come to an unexpectedly sudden stop!

    I would replace.
