Ok i've been riding MTB's and recently treated my self to a giant defy 4 2010

Normaly i'll ride my MTB every other day an do about 17-25mile an TBH its a fairly easy bike ride takes about an hour to 17mile an 1hr 45min to do 25 always the same route

I went out on the defy last week an did 14mile of not many hills (but a few biggens) an i found it so hard, i could feel my hamstrings like i've never felt them on my MTB, i struggled up the hills an when i could i free wheeled to get my breath back an again this never happens on the MTB (i will say again the route i do on my MTB is lets say... family oriented)

So am just looking for some advice/tips really on what am doing wrong cos TBH its kind of put me off goin out doin 12mph while you got cars an lorrys flying past

Thanks guys an gals

Chev

Your new bike should be faster than the MTB.

If you're struggling on your first ride its probably because your body is not used to the different seating position, gearing etc.

Keep at it and it should improve in a couple of rides.

IMy road bike is broken at the moment so I've been riding to work on a very old and cheap coventry eagle mtb. I hated it on the first day, but now I'm used to it I'm flying!
  • in june i got my first road bike and like you was riding my mtb every other day for about 18miles and then going to the peak district at the weekend.

My first ride on the road bike was so hard compared to the mountain bike dont worry though you will soon get used to it.
