Endura Baa Baa for me. Great performance at a reasonable price comes in short sleeve and long sleeve too.0

Or if price bothers you trekmates bamboo baselayer, so far it's been great and if you sniff around it can be had for £22-£23 i will have to get me a baa baa at some point just for comparisons sake.

wore in in Sunday under a goretex paclight.
Never too hot, never too cold, was perfect.
Expensive but get what you pay for as always!0 -
or pop down to your local sports shop and grab urself somethin like an under armour or nike as they are alot cheaper than most and as i've found they are really good espeshally the under armour because it comes in heat gear to keep you cool or cold gear to keep you warm. in the winter all i wear on my top half is a cold gear under armour, a jersey and a lightweight waterproof and ive never been cold since i bought the under armour.0

Any proper base layer will do. Wicking material is wicking material, the merino wool stuff is nice and warm though.0

Frontline is warmer than a Baa Baa but gets smelly if you get sweaty. Baa Baa is great almost all year round (wore it in summer on rainy days as it stays warm when wet). Get both.... they will both have their place0

Do people generally go long or short sleeve on the base layer?0

If you haven`t worn Merino before make sure you try it before you buy.Despite claims that they are`nt itchy,I found I just couldn`t get on with it.2006 Giant XTC

I go short but that's because I have short arms and end up with baggy arms.http://twitter.com/mgalex

Long at this time of year...will go short in the spring....0

I wear long all the time.
I have tried a few, they are all pretty much teh same to me to be honest, but the Endura one I have today is rather thick and close fitting
Jasit looks a bit steep to me.....0 -

I've 2 of these tops, one short sleeve and one long sleeve. Both have lasted well even after going in the washing machine at least once a week for the last year.
I got the 1st as a pressie. I got the 2nd from Tiso for myself 'cos the 1st was so good.
I know merino stuff's expensive but I really think it's worth it.0 -
For the people who are not bother about brand names and after a bargin, I just found that Primark are doing performance/wikking base layer clothing, short sleeve tops for £8, after i brought mine from trespass 13 (might take it back)
They did a good range of stuff , long sleave, some long jon type things, think i saw some jackets too, not sure of the other prices but should be dirt cheap being Primark0 -
Good shout bamba, think I will try and have a look tomorrow on lunch break! I use a long sleave HH base layer at the moment, but a few more tops for that price, even if they don't last too long has got to be worth a punt.0

Aldi are doing a turtle neck base layer this week for about £7 (long sleeve) (thermal knited for extra warmth and black or white). Its been sold as a golfers base layer but I cant see any difference what ever sport you do - its not as if the arms are looked in swing mode or anything!!! Should be okay wether you do running, cycling, golf, footy, hiking - what ever.0

Another +1 for the Endura BaaBaa. I have one and it's ace, another is on my Christmas list...
It's quite warm, wicks well, and dries quickly. Fine on it's own if it's mild or underneath a jacket if it's colder. It was a little itchy at first but I don't find it is now, whether it's softened through washing or I've just got used to it I don't know.
I can wear it for 5 days' commuting and amazingly it doesn't really smell - polyester Coolmax-type tops stink after just one ride! After a week I do wash it, unlike traditional woolen stuff it seems to survive just fine on a normal 40 degrees coloured cotton cycle.0 -
Prendas ones are pretty good. Short or Long sleeve. White or Black. Often seen being used by riders who shouldn't be wearing them!
