Which models have the blackbox technology? And what does it actually do over the other models?
I'm looking at the 2009 rev 426 Dual Air maxle light with pop lock, I Don't really want to spend £500+ on forks if I don't have to....
Or any other nice 140mm forks out there?

It will say if the motion control is black box. None of the 2009 Revs had it, but some of the new 2010 do ie the Team.0
-
Ahh ok fair enough... no wonder i'm struggling to find blackbox on 09 revs
£300 for 2009 rev 426 Dual Air maxle light with pop lock, can it be beaten?0 -
Is a good deal - though may want to consider the 2010 Race for £50 more as uses the lighter updated chassis:

Ahh yes, I had spotted these but they're 150mm.
Would it make noticable difference over 140mm for a frame that's tuned for 140mm?0 -
They are All Travel and can be altered to 140mm (or less) internally.
Depends on the crown to axle length of the forks.0 -
Hexelent. Take it I wouldn't need anything extra parts wise to reduce the travel?
As soon as the frame is confirmed on order I think I'll get some0 -
Make sure they come with that spacer though!0
-
-
Pretty much, and more options.
Old Rev used the hefty Pike lowers.0 -
Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit them with it

the 2009 rev 426 Dual Air maxle light with pop lock is the same weight as that 2010 race :?0
-
The 2009 weights were a bit optimistic! 2010 are bang on from what I have seen.
WMB weighed it at 1984g. That is only a few g lighter tha my Tora!0 -
Cheeky gits! hmm. In that case...
Just another Q though, what has actually changed? The sound of Pike lowers sounds better to me seeing as though i'm a big barsteward and they're pretty bombproof.... and its going to be a bang in the middle sorta bike...
as long as its not as bad as my Domains at over 3000g!0 -
The new lowers are supposedly lighter, stiffer and stronger with the intro of power bulges. But who can tell ;-)
Also a lighter crown.0 -
lighter, stiffer AND stronger
hmm. Than what? lol.
Rutland haven't got back to me about the spacer yet though so i'll have to wait.
Order seems to have gone through for the frame though.
Tis a nice FS frame without a rear shock0 -
Than it was ;-)
Makes you wonder about the pike... why it doesn't get the powerbulges?0 -
Surely would have made more sense on the pike than rev with it being a "bigger" fork ie more aimed at heavier stuff?
My domain has them... no idea what they do though. Probably just make it heavier!0 -
It, according to RS, provides better support for the bushings and translates into a stiffer chassis and smoother fork. Possibly the Pike is stronger around the brace, but you don't get that feeling from RS vids and tech.
Forgot to mention the 2010 Revs have shorter upper stanchions (which theoretically decresses stiffness...) and shorter internals which is also part of the weight drop.
It is hard to sum it all up, but it is certainly lighter than the previous year.
Incidentally the new Recon Maxle Lite has Pike lowers.0 -
the powerbulges add stiffness round the bushes, make the forks less prone to stiction and increases the wear life and stiffness.
The pike is just really fat the whole way up! I'd imagine it works like butting on spokes/tubes, makes it stronger where it needs it, so a powerbulged fork will be stronger at a given weight.
I really hope they either kill off or revamp the pike for 2011, it's due an update! Ideally either misson control or BBMC and 2-step air.0 -
A bit OT but what frame have you decided to get in the end Ben?0
-
A lovely Orange P7 in white + free hope headset.
Unfortunately won't have it till just after Xmas when they send out the new batch
not going as burly as the surge, just a nice all rounder. Budget is whatever I wanna pay really so I'm kinda open to any suggestions..0 -
P7? Might as well get a 456 and save some cash!0

've just spotted 2010 dual air revs race with 140mm travel for a smidge over 300. They gonna have the new technology?0

yep they get the new chassis minus bbmc, just the standard damper, if you want bbmc you have to go team or xx0 -
oh and those ones are fixed travel to 140 and cant be adjusted up to 150mm or down to 130mm0

Mmmm P7. I keep looking at the ex demo single speed for sale on Orange's website and trying to convince myself that I do need a third bike...

Saw a young lad on a brand new P7 the other week at Whinlatter, was a really nice build and a pretty decent weight too, much lighter than my porker.0
