I would send it DHL - to many horror stories about people sending Parcel Force if it ends up in the hands of USPS. You need to know the size of the box you're sending it in and use the volumetric calculator on various websites to find out the best price. For instance, a pair of wheels or a frame to the US is about £70 - a bike probably double. I'd get creative in terms of your packaging skills to get it as small as possible without compromising the protection to the contents. - plenty of pipe-lagging and cable ties to secure it together
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

if you know which airline you are going with, check their website for cycle carriage options

i've sent electronic equipment via dhl in big tough flight cases and had it arrive damaged, once even the flight case was smashed, this isn't just a dhl issue, had stuff damaged with other carriers too

it is hard to believe, but for non-standard baggage i think airline service is probably much safer!

if it is a short trip you might be able to hire a case, otherwise it is probably £200-300 for a decent one, a bit pricey if you won't use it often although you could always sell it after

Personally, I wouldn't send anything by Parcelfarce
    Once bitten, twice shy.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

  • well parcel force came to my address one day with a parcel.
I wasn't home - so they left again.

One week later I complained to the person who should have send me a parcel
    They had sent it
    They tracked it down.
It was at a post office a couple of km from my place.

apparently I am supposed to guess that I have a parcel and then I am supposed to guess where it is.

because they did not leave a note saying that they had tried to deliver a parcel.
I asked the bloke at the post office and he said it was common that they couldn't be bothered to leave a note
