Hi folks, had my i-drive 5 for about eighteen months now,im thinkiing about upgrading the drivetrain on it reasons being.

1.The cheap/crud truvative blaze crank/bottom bracket, sounds like an old bed frame being ridden down the road(creaky,I thinks its the bb because it only creaks under load ie when hillclimbing.

2.I like the idea of dually ie the shimano m665 set,got phobias about getting ring three in my legs in an off,see this months mbuk yum!
Mostly do trail riding so do not need the biggy a lot anyway.

3.Im also unsure about this old fave,do i replace the rear cassette and chain when putting a new crank on?xt`s are cheap at mo in crc £40 bucks, plus i like the look of the the gold kmc chains, any of you guys own one or am i being a bit chavvy?

ta very much :D
Told ya itll hurt!

    1 ?
    2 ?
3 if it is worn and if you want a KMC chain then why not.

sorry how have made a pile of statements but not asked anything.

so moved it from tech to buying as it might be a buying post but then i have no idea.

Hi nick sorry about the confusion lol,the bike clicks and creaks under load, ive washed it down lubed the pedals v8`s with the grease syringe provided,it seems to have backed off a bit, could the bottom bracket be getting gritty or dry?
Just need to know if ive got to replace other stuff if i upgrade the crankset, to a hollowtech/bashgaurd shimano set up,chains a bit grot, ive always thought that you replace cassettes with chains ,and chains with cassettes, the teeth on the rear sprocket do not look too bad for wear,so could i just replace the crank and chain and get away with it? cheers

what fitting it the BB? if it's ISIS or less likely square, remove the cranks, grease the bb splines and put them back on, that could solve the issue.

it depends if it is too worn.

    cant say with out seeing.

fit the cranks and if things jump and skip then yes you will need to change other bits.

lets say the drive train is 3 years old and well used then yes replace it all (cranks/chain/casette and maybe jockey wheels).

Probably not the BB, the I-Drive pivots are very prone to creaking.

I thought it was the BB on mine so replaced it, didnt solve the problem at all.

Take the crank off and use an internal bottom bracket tool to tighten the pivots (after first slackening off the locking nuts inside); you turn the closed side of the pivots, not the open side.

Noise will probably stop once tightened up.
