It's winter and getting cold, and as I am spending time in Durham over xmas I am planning for colder...
I want to buy a pair of Assos bibtights, with a pad, but am bewildered by the amount of different bibtights they sell!
Any advice?
Thanks, Francis

Main difference= £45.59
According to the description, the Winter LL S5 are good for 0-8°C / 32-46°F
Airprotec LL F1 = 12-18°C.
So F1's for early winter, S5's for proper winter.
To further complicate, I have used my F1's a few times already. With the Airprotec in the fronts, I've always been comfortable, even when they were sopping wet through, I still remained warm.
I think that if I needed anything warmer than the F1's, I'd jump on the turbo instead :shock:Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -

For 12-18 Id use 3/4 tights, and no more as thats mild.
For winter the LLs are just different class with S5 pads. They hold, are warm, very very comfortable and just feel a million $.
Airprotec are great but just my opinion....theyre halfway to the full monty which is the S5 LLs.0 -
I don't entirely agree with some of these comments. The Airprotecs with the S2 pad are superb and better than the Airblocks due to better knee protection.
The S5 Winter LLs are nice, very nice but only if the newer designed insert suits you and your bits, which isn't everybody.0 -
Stupid money.

someone's written above that 0-8 degrees is proper winter. Surely in the winter when out on a crisp, blue dry day, the temp with wind chill is going to be WAY colder than this? Im looking to buy some Assos winter LLs and thought the temp range looked ok but ive noticed a few comments that would suggest if the temp was cold enough to wear them its best not to bother going out!?
This had made me question whether or not I should bother buying them as I wonder if Ill get the use out of them. Ive only been riding a year but do my best running training when its sub zero. Am I missing something? Is riding in sub zero temps a big no-no?0 -

This was taken from the Assos description on the Wiggle site!
Not actually my own words.
I've been comfortable in my tights everytime I've been out. The deciding factor regarding temperature is:
When it gets cold enough to be icey! That's dangerous, not necessarily unpleasant...
Then I sit on the turbo.
IMHO, if it's cold enough to need tights, but warm enough not to be freezing over... Wear Assos... Use the advice above as to which type you think you may need.Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0
