basiclly would it work. i havn't tried it but has anyone?
and it won't be put on the frame but wrapped around the cable in a part where cable rub would occur.
could be cheap as usually you get a 3meter roll of it in B&Q for cheap so it would last you a long time

would still rub the frame. so dont think it would work to be honest.
spend 5-8 quid on patches0 -
Your hoses and cables will rub through electrical tape in no time.
It's a commonly known fact that Shimano XT brake hoses are the strongest and most abrasive substance known to man, in fact carbon buckyballs are made up entirely of XT brake hoses joined together. I cut slabs with mine.0 -
think jay is on about putting the tape on the cables, therefore it will still rub the frame.0

thanks everyone.

because i thought it wouldn't hold for long enough0 -
I use to use it on my frame years ago- did the job, just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't wear through0

my frame's already rubbed down to the paint so wouldn't work for me0

I've had some tape on my frame for 2 years now and it hasn't moved - works perfectly!0

just dont get any solvents on it.
they tend to dissolve the adhesive quite easily making a nice sticky mess."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I use clear Fablon from B&Q - a few quid for a roll that wil last forever. Sticks as well as patches, can cut to size/shape you want and can cope with awkward angles/edges.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Where are the cables routed?
I don't use patches anymore - I've worked out if you use cable ties you can stop the cables making contact with the frame - problem solved. Not really active0 -
Whats wrong with good old 'rape tape'

Go to your nearest signwriter or printers and aks for some off-cuts of vinyl stickers, either clear or the colour of your frame, and cut to size.I have had some on two bikes and there is no way the cable will rub through it!
Get enough and you can put some on the underside of the down tube to help protect against stone chips. You wouldn't even notice the clear stuff when its on.0 -
copter tape !!
worther every penny ! Can see it when it's on and Sticks better then dried weetabix0 -
As a quick-and-dirty fix I used some cloth insulating tape (wiring loom tape, some people call it) which I had lying about, and it actually seems to be a match for the cable outers. Costs pennies, and doesn't leave as much horrible residue. Helicopter tape is nicer though.Uncompromising extremist0
