What are peoples opinions of these bikes?

Its my first road bike purchase which i hope to do some racing on next year. They are all seem quite similar in components with perhaps the Scott edging it.

I hope to test ride all 3 and will go for the one that fits best but i won't get to test ride for a week or two so whilst i wait what do people think of these bikes?

  • Anyone have any thoughts on these bikes?

I'm still waiting for the Scott to come in so i can try all three. Will it be worth the wait or should i go with one of the others?

I can offer an opinion on the Trek 1.5 as have the 09 version and would say that it is a good bike for training and long distance due to its long head tube, which gives a more comfortable position than some of the more racier frames.

If you are going for the 2010 model I think they have gone back to full Tiagra set up, if so then no problems with the silly positioned thumb shifter as on the Sora (mine has Sora front and shifter)

if you plan on racing, you should consider the position that you are riding in, but do make sure it's not too aggresive that it will make your back creek!! I can't offer an opinion on either the Spesh or the Scott geometry.

Overall I am pleased with my Trek, nice frame, good ride although I am in the process of getting a new, lighter wheelset and maybe changing the shifters.

Just make sure you try all three and don't get the first one you try, be patient and you will get the right one.

I have the 2008 Scott Speedster s30 in Flat Bar version and I can't praise it highly enough. I don't have vast knowledge of road bikes, this is my first since I was at school, but it's light, the gears have a smooth and positive feel and an unfit troll such as myself can happily put in a good turn of speed. My only comment would be to watch the wheels on your first rides as mine tried to dismantle the front wheel mid-ride by shaking the spokes loose but I took it back and the shop rebuilt the wheel, and it's been fine. I am also surprised at how ineffective the brakes are but I gather that's just how the brakes are on road bikes and maybe I notice it more because I'm more used to MTB's with disc brakes.

  • If you are looking at these you should defnitiely try out a Felt F75. I test rode a Scott Speedster S30 and Felt F75 at the same time and the Felt won hands down (much more responsive ride). It's down to personal taste, but I ended up buying the Felt after not considering it when drawing up my original shortlist.
