Brake upgrade

I currently have a rather poor Shimano BR-M485 disc set on my Felt, and looking to upgrade, but need technical advice please!
I have a 180 post mount on the front and 160 IS mount on the back, but would these Avids be retro-fittable? Maybe keeping the current discs, to avoid the conversion from the Shimano splines to 6bolt? Excuse my ignorance, it looks doable, but never tried anything like this before! More used to cars

And, equally as important, are they any good? New to 2010 but recognise the Elixir as a decent system, just not seen any reviews. Cheap brother to the R and CR?

yes the avids will fit.
get the 6 bolt rotors and some spline to 6 bolt adaptors as the shimano rotors are crap."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks Nick 8)
Any recommendation on rotor to suit?0 -
Elexirs are phenominal.
and id give the superstar rotors a go. cheap, light, good cooling....I like bikes and stuff0 -

no they will fit your fork as it is a post mount 160 mounting."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

you wont need more than a 160mm rotor on the front of your felt. Uless you weigh more than 125kg!
At 90kg a 160mm rotor stops me on a dime. Almost too much braking.0 -
Fair enough, but had a 180 on there as standard, and doesnt seem to make sense downgrading! If I can stick another 180 on there with an adaption kit, then i'd rather do that. I weight around 80kg's by the way...0

You're not downgrading, you're "adding lightness".
Well it worked for Colin Chapman!0 -

As long as a 160 stops me better than the Shimano's I'll not care if it's a 140!0 -
What kind of riding do you do?0

Oh well then, 160's will be just dandy.0

Sweet.
The caliper mount says 180 only, so do I need a new bracket too?0 -
NO again, it bolts straight on to the fork.
or use the current adapter and use the same sized disc."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thought so, but I know what assuming does...0
