hi, as winter draws in, i'm needing a front mudguard for my Gary Fisher Big Sur. I had an SKS Shockboard on my old bike, but it's not fitting the nice new Fox forks, and i've always found it a bit flimsy anyway. Primary concern is mud getting in my eyes (which i've heard, but correct me if i'm wrong, is not stopped by a crud catcher), but i'd also prefer to keep relatively clean aswell. I'd like it to be cheap, but still well made.

Mud getting in your eyes is stopped by the shades you should be wearing.

Never had a problem with mud in the eyes and never had mudguards.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"

nah, i've tried them and just can't get on with them
  • what about one of those neoprene jobbies that cover the gap between the wheel and the fork

    It`s changed a bit since...

  • I'm using the new Crud fast fender. I wasn't too sure of it when I saw the first pics but actually doesn't look at odd in the flesh - and it works! Went out today. Torrential rain and the whole trail with water on it and lots of puddles - end of day = face clean. 8) Which is more than can be said for my glasses wearing friend who had to stop at least three times in 6 miles to clean them off  I have to admit I am a recent convert to mudguards as I was an old school mtb'er who used to sneer at those who used the first crudcatchers - now I use mine nearly all year. Must be getting old

  • i am liking the look of the neoguard, but does anyone know if it still stops mud in your face with short ( fox F100) forks?

Mate, one of the best upgrades on my £1400 bike is an old innertube cable tied to the forks. Sliced length ways and fits in the same position as one of those Neoguards. Cost zilcho and the amount of mud it stops flying up is amazing, so much so that in winter i hardly use my clear glasses anymore. Simplez 8)
