A while ago I posted a thread about finding out the sex of my unborn child! Some said find out, some said wait. I had one or two ''discussions'' with misses Zed on the matter and managed to stop her from spoiling the suprise!

Anyways yesterday Amelia weighing a healthy 7 lbs 13 oz arrived! She's our first, and I felt completed to tell you guys! I'm so proud. She's beautiful, dark skinned, dark hair and a right looker. Obviously they came from her mother. (Who's fine and doing well for those sensitive types).

Not that I know what VP looked like as a newborn, but IMO Amelia's not far off? Anyone got any training plans for newborns to turn them into World Champions of the cycling world? 8)

Congrats! I have a 7 week old son and if he had been a "she" our name choice was Amelia so well done!

Life will never be the same again! Enjoy!

    Congrats Zedders! :D

I'd suggest fixing a turbo to the front wheel of her trike, Telletubbies video & a light schedule of 5 mile reps to start her off.

<edit> I've just noticed the cranks would interfere with the turbo clamp, so rollers would be more appropriate. :D

    Congratulations & well done!

Regarding training tips etc...First off you need the correct machine. Planet X are always getting rave reviews on this forum so I'd have one of those carbon jobs they do in the smallest size. I think they may even do a pink version still. Spec it with a compact as she is a beginner & won't be handy in the hills. This will also encourage her to spin with a high cadence as this is vital so that her knees don't fall off or explode.

At such an early age you'll have plenty of time to gain excellent "base" fitness. I'd lay off any speedwork 'til she's about 4.

Nutrition is vital. Breast is best but Cow & Gate do some pretty good sports drinks these days. Later the humble rusk is a carb laden package for when the endurance phase of the training kicks in.

    Good luck champ!

    Congrats, Zedders...
I'm sure she'll bring you a lifetime of smiles.

  • Congrats to Mr & Mrs Zedders, I dont have any saucepan lids of my own but one day hope to be able to force a small person in their formative years to support Spurs and ride a bike. I have spoken to a Colleague in Social Services and IT IS NOT cruel to force your Child to support Spurs. Forcing one to support Leicester City however would see you locked up as a sick pervert  .

    Congratulations to you mate!

Totally agree with the above training tips. One disadvantage to all the early training tho, imagine going for a ride and getting dropped by your 12 year old girl!

    Indeed... as this dad suggests:

"I remember mornings at home when a gale was blowing and the rain was lashing down, lying in bed at 6.30am, inwardly praying that I wouldn't have to get up. But, sure enough, the door would be flung back and Nicole burst in: 'Come on, Dad…' She was 11.

“I used to go out cycling with her but eventually she sacked me. When she was 14 she was waiting for me to go for a ride with her when she said: ‘You don’t have to come with me. I get cold waiting for you at the top of the hills’.”
  • Just looking through the NFFC archive to see if there was ever a player called Amelia :D
Congatulations and all the best to you and your family.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
I like Skyd0gs trike, but surely it should be blue?

Stewie Griffin and jellybellywmb I don't think your are funny. The misses does! But then you lot would find most things in life funny supporting Spurs or Forrest!

Training kicking in now. She's on her recovery ride (on my shoulder) and recovery energy drink (lots of milk) sorted by mummy!

I knew we should of got a three wheel pushchair!

Congrats to you and Mrs Zedders, mate.

My 2 yr-old won't eat her breakfast unless she can wear her cycling helmet at the table. Loves being on the back of the bike.....

    Cheers.

  • Congrats on the arrival of your daughter, but you are a bit late on the training plan. You should have had the missus on the bike throughout pregnancy, it has been proven to improve the CV fitness of not just the mum, but the baby also.
