    Probably you have all lost interest in this one, but my defence of downshifters was only that the Ciocc steel frame I bought came with 7 spd indexed Shimano downshifters and they work well enough on my commuter not to bother to replace them.

    I think their cheapness and simplicity still makes them a valid choice. I also use a 5 speed basic commuter - a bike that is way better than it looks that i can leave anywhere and still expect to find it when I come back.

    Centaur Ergos and 105 on the other road bikes though.
