Based on what? They are incredibly similar in geometry and shape. What makes Spesh "miles better" than Trek?
Post two photos so I can see how they are similar - my eyes tell a different story and that is not to mention the colour schemes and standard compnents.
It's amazing how different the two bikes look when you put them beside each other:

This is pretty pointless. If I post a picture of a Wilier next to a Trek and they have everything the same apart from the frame and fork, would you say they are the same?
Still, that Trek is not very attractive imo. If you had those two against eachother, which you say are so similar, why buy the Trek?
And by the way, the frame/fork on those are pretty different. The geometry really is quite different.
Also here we go. Similarly priced - are they similar?!

Yes that Speckledeyes is revolting.
The point stands though.Contador is the Greatest0 -

See, I don't think it's revolting. I've owned and riden trek and specialised frames. It's certainly no more revolting than them bendy Pinarello things.
Just go's to show, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The world would be a pretty boring place if we all liked the same thing !!0 -
FF - But you are comparing the Roubaix with a Pro-Spec Madone. You should be looking at the TARMAC model -

I really don't understand why anyone is so concerned by FF's likes and dislikes when it comes to the aesthetics of some bikes. Surely he can just like what he likes and leave at that!0

Of course. I was just pointing out that the geometry of the two bikes is similar. Therefore - to say one is 'far superior' to the other was an overstatement. But if you like one more than the other - so be it.
I ride the Trek, but think the Spesh is a nice bike. But would rather have a Cervelo over both of them..
To each their own.0 -
After looking at the photos of the Spec bike I'm reminded of an earlier post on some forgotten thread wherein someone observed that some of the new carbon frames looked
like a dog taking a sh*t.0 -

I may be wrong but I seem to remember you saying you had one of the highest model Treks, a 5.9 or maybe a 6.9?
If this is the case, why didn't you buy a Cervelo which is cheaper, more attractive and arguably performs better?Contador is the Greatest0 -

What makes you think the Cervelo performs better than the Trek 6 series? The 2010 Trek is a frickin amazing frame.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0 -

I have the 6.9 - yes. But I got it cheap when I worked at British Cycling (as Trek provide many of the road bikes for BC riders).
It's only in the last year I've started to look around at bikes a lot more seriously. I have my eye on the 2010 Cervelo frames. Very nice.
(Plus I wanted to ride the same bike as Bertie)0 -

FF is this one of those "spot the difference" competitions? What's the prize?0

Well - it looks like QuickStep will actually be on Merckx - so you should be pleased FF0

Lots of comments on which bike has the prettiest paint scheme but several QS riders were not happy with the Specialized frames, the same is true amongst Saxo riders. There have been complaints of too much flex in the BB area from the bigger riders and Cancellara did not like the TT frame he was supplied with for the first half of the year.
But what suits Boonen and Cancellara is very different from the needs and wishes of a hobby rider, and it's those who buy the bikes that make the market after all.0 -
This could be the bike he is riding at the moment:

I saw that when cyclingnews did a piece on it a while back. Very very nice. I like the red and black chain links.Le Blaireau (1)0

The talk in Belgium is that the recent top end Merckx bikes havn't been all that great either. I think I'm right in thinking they they do bespoke sizes however, rather than off the rack, ala Specialised?
I hope so, or Boonen is going to have another 1st half of the year ruined by a bad back.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0
