Slime filled road tubes

Anyone have an opinion on the best slime-type filled tubes to avoid p********?

Seem to be a few more available in 700x23-25c these days. It's only for the commuter wheels so not fussed about weight and ride qaulity too much. Just want to combine them with my winter tyres for as much protection as possible.

  • Didn't have a good experience with these myself. Slime worked into both valves, went hard and then stubbonly refuse to inflate anymore.

To be honest you're probably better off investing in a top end puncture resistant tyre (conti 4 seasons or similar).

I had a slime tube in the rear it lasted about 200 miles before getting sliced open and spraying green everywhere, before that you could feel it sloshing around and making the wheel wobble at speed.

Your really better off getting some decent tyres, I've had one puncture in nearly 4000 miles with conti ultra gatorskins. The rear needs replacing soon though it's getting a bit thin.

  • I wasn't impressed when I slimed my tubes. A few weeks later I had a P* and the only thing good about slime IMO was I could see the cut in the tyre straightaway as the goo came out. When i took the tyre off I had goo all over my hands, some on my clothes.

    I'm not using it again.

    PS. It's also quite heavy!

Yes indeed, or even consider the Schwalbe Durano Plus, that's over 300g but has even more puncture resistance (or at least that's what the brochure says). Slime is going to weigh you down more than tougher tyres and it's not going to stop objects getting through the sidewall or canvas.

Ah winter... there's a problem right here. While I have had good results with slime tubes, once the temperatures drops the slime doesn't work so well. Probably best to do what the other guys say and go for a better tyre.

Thanks for the advice. Already have good winter tyres (use Krylions or ultra gators) so will probably just go for a standard thick inner tube.
  • Bought these with high hopes and punctured after around 5 miles on first outing.

Nae use at all, stick with standard tubes and good tyres.
