I ordered a P1 over 100 days ago and still have yet to see my bike. Might as well have just got the 2011 model.

Hi Zach,
what spec/paint etc did you go for? We ordered our shop demo back in September and it's due into our shop for the end of November.
Custom paintjobs (flames/argyle/etc) make the lead time 30days minimum, production line paint schemes are 7days minimum (although 14-21days would be more usual allowing for shipping/weekends/etc).
I'm sure it will be worth waiting for!

I got the Contador paint scheme which they removed as an option from the Project One website. Word from Trek is that mine was one of two that were made as far as 2010 model goes.0

What's the finish quality like ? One trek dealer I know wasn't very happy - they we're having to send frames back to be redone. They must have sorted that out by now though.0

You ordered the Contador paintjob?? Surely that answers your question as to why they're not prepared to fulfil your order - look what happened to the last cyclist who crossed Trek or it's associates - you might have to await the outcome of the Lemond trial to get any recompence!!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

cougie...to your question about finish...
I've been very dissatisfied with the finish of my P1. The paint scheme is/was the stock black/grey of the '09 5.5 line - I used P1 to get the bike w/ Sram Force and Race X-lites. The bike arrived with the clear chainstay protector peeling off along the edges. The paint chips incredibly easy - similar to some Italian frames. I'm not sure if something went wrong during the finishing of the paint job - it almost seems like the paint wasn't allowed the cure properly after application. I do know that my frame went through the paint shop same time Trek shut down the paint line to work on Lance's ToA / ToC custom jobs. I have a Spec. Tricross w/ over 8000 miles of commuting and a handful of cx races - and its finish has held up much better than my P1 w/ less then 4000 fair weather miles.
fwiw...i thoroughly enjoy the ride of the madone. the ride is a 10. the paint job is a 4. i'm glad i didn't pay extra for a custom paint job.0 -
Thats a pity - the problem seems to have been around for a couple of years without being fixed then.0

@ zachsarver928 any news on your bike?
I orderded mine over 60 days ago and just found out that the latest date is 30 Jan next year! Giving a 112 day lead time.
I was originally quoted 45 days plus for 5.2 Madone with plain blue finish and basic logos and standard kit - not sure what is causing the delay (hand painting all the little (R)'s for Lance?)
LBS has been excellent - but response from Trek has been poor.
Only good news is that its currently winter so I am not missing much riding time.0 -
Part of the reason it MIGHT be taking so long, is that many of the frames aren't actually available yet. As in Trek haven't finished making them yet! Once they have been manufactured, then they can be painted.
Have purchased many Treks in the past - and they weren't available until this time of year. And that was the off-the-shelf models.0 -
I bought my Trek Project One at the beginning of november, it was designed by one of the guys in my LBS...... I purchased the Madone 5.9 in Matte Onyx Carbon..... Fantastic bike to ride.0

There's a stronger current in the oceans at the moment which means container ships from Taiwan are taking longer to arriveExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

That's interesting. Except Trek Madones are hand made in the USA.
The aluminium stuff comes from the Far East.0 -
Ordered my new 5.2 on the bike to work scheme, got the voucher through back in september, phoned the shop to get the bike on order, the guy said its due in tomorrow, glad they jumped the gun as back then the wait had pushed out to Jan.
Only down side is with the weather, I cant get out on it, great ride, lov it and so far 2 mates have now ordered thiers, demand out stripping supply unless you spec a standard paint job and build.
worth the wait.
NB Bontrager race are rubbish, reccomend dura-ace carbon laminates.0 -
I am sure it will be worth the wait...
the frustration is that the P1 system gave an estimate of 45 days - and i am now facing a delivery time of 112 days! Had the P1 system have told me this upfront I would have gone for a standard finish every day of the week.0 -

turboslave - are you referring to Bontrager Race Lites? If so, I agree 100%. In my 25+ years of riding, the Race Lites may well be the worst wheels I've ever been on.
Now, the Bontrager Race X-Lites fall onto the other end of the spectrum. No fancy carbon rims...But, may be one of the best all-around wheelset I've been on. Smooth, responsive, light, durable, affordable...Baffling how the two lines can perform so differently. :?
My teammate ordered his P1 in Aug/Sept - and had it mid-Oct. Looks like you need to either, 1) order during the first wave of new yr production, 2) order during the peak (mid-fall/winter and just wait it out, or 3) wait until mid year when hub-bub is over...0 -

Just curious, could you tell me how you found that you have only one of two Contador Project One frames? I'm asking, as I must have the other one.
I bought it used from a friend (employee at a very high volume Trek shop) that got it as a warranty replacement. Thinking of selling it, wondering if the paint scheme may make it more valuable due to the very low production number.
thanks,
