Colds and Cold feet!

I recently saw a medical research report that showed that after sitting with feet in cold water for 30 mins a trial group were significantly more prone to catch a common cold than a control group. Given the frequent comments on this site re colds and, separately, cold feet I wonder if there is a causal connection amongst cyclists. :?:

We used to spend whole weekends with more than wet feet when we were enthusiastic dinghy racers. Even if we managed to avoid a capsize every launch involved wading out into thigh deep water and even chest deep if launching into the sea off a beach. Never noticed any effect on virus infections and no-one else mentioned it either.
