I've been looking at 2009 and 2010 Specialized bikes and the only real difference I can see is the upgrade from FACT6r to FACT8r carbon.

Will there be any discernable difference between the two frames? In case it's relevant, I'm over 14 stone and probably generate a fiar bit of power, but am very much an amateur!

Thanks.l

  • Well clearly there will be 2R difference!

Ultimately it seems to be a Specialized marketing term to create a clear differentiator between models where this is no other descriptor of the relative merits of lighter or stiffer. They seem to just trickle down the design from S-Works top end stuff as the years roll on to the next models down, so the 2010 S-Works is 11R, while my 2010 Roubaix Expert is 9R and the next model down the Rou Elite is 8R. Presumably the 2011 S-works will be 12R and so on and so on.

If it makes any difference is a good question, I suppose you could argue they develop the S-Works stuff in collaboration with the Pros they supply so each year is more 'refined' or you could just argue it's marketing.

I test rode the 2008 Rou Expert (in 2008) and I bought the 2010 after a test ride this year and I think the 2010 'feels' stiffer and quicker. It may just be because my bum is smaller this year or my quads are bigger *shrugs*.

So is that £250 per R? Or is it not a linear scale? Does it cost more for example to get from 11R to 12R than it does from 6R to 7R?

You can tell I don't know mt R's from my elbow.
