Hi All
I'm keen to buy a Boardman Pro Carbon and the Boardman website is specifying a "2010" model, essentially the same bike but with slightly uprated components and 2010 SRAM Force. Once you click through to the Halfords site though all they offer you is the 2009 version.

I've called Halfords but they cant tell me when or if the bikes they are selling now are the new spec. Has anyone bought one recently or know when they are coming out?

cheers

I think the 2010 ones have the bb30 and a bigger diameter headtube lower bearing to improve front end stiffness. Looks a good move along with the Force 2010 groupset.

My local one has a 2010 spec bike in now although its already sold, but I got chance to have a look at it. The main differences I noticed are the crank is more flushed and has white marks on it as do the shifters, same sort of style as SRAM Red. The guy also mentioned something about the stem and seat tube being a different material to make them lights.... can't say it looked any different to the 09 model :)

If you google '2010 SRAM Force Crankset' you will see what I mean.

thanks for replies. Interesting that one is already in local store. Ideally want to order one online (and get a slight discount) but dont want to get sent a 2009 model. Its annoying but fairly typical Halfords can't tell me which model i'll receive.

That said, am now torn between a Team Carbon at £999 and the £1600 Pro Carbon. I'ld need to fit a compact to the Pro version making the cost differential even higher so I'm wondering whether to just get the cheaper version with compact already fitted and then upgrade the wheels and some of the components (or of course, could go to Planet X instead!!)
  • I'll tell you tomorrow.
Ordered my Pro carbon on line and its due to be delivered.
I can say that Halfords at Manchester phoned Boardman whilst I was in the shop having a look at one and they confirmed it will be the 2010 spec! (be massively gutted if it isn't). The improvements are not extensive but worthwhile having. I believe though that it will have a radical shake up in 2011. but heay I can't wait that long

Hi, Ive got the Team Carbon and very pleased with it.

But set it up yourself and most importantly bin the standard wheels as these are not up to the job

I have fitted Easton Tempest 2s to mine and has made an already great bike much better

So instead of spending the extra £600 on the Pro buy the Team and invest in a decent pair of wheels

    Great, thanks again.
blazingsaddle, please do let me know spec that arrives and good luck... I'm in Manchester too, which store did you go to?

I'm stilll leaning towards one of the Boardmans but a Planet X titanium is also tempting me. Tough decision!
  • Well the bike arrived and I'm very please to say that if you order the Pro Carbon you will get the 2010 version!!

I ordered it on line not through a halfords store so the bike came pre built, just some minor adjustments to make. One thing to point out though is that being a carbon bike, those adjustments have torque settings, this caught me out big time and I got stung for a torque Wrench too! Actually went to Halfords for it but would it suprise you to know they don't have one you can buy that can get down to 5Nm!!! lowest they have is 6. And get this, when I asked Bike hut what they do, they said they have to get a specialist in to do it for them because they don't have a Wrench that can do the job either!!! :o (come on Halford, get it together  )

Took her for her maiden ride and have to say I'm very pleased with the new girl. Its different from my old Alu bike, very light! eats hills for breakfast

Its early days but all the signs are good. Hope this helps?
