Servicing of Ultegra STI Levers

My left hand triple brifter does not register gear changes on my flightdeck computer. I have checked the contacts beneath the pressure button and they work fine when the button is pressed so the problem must be where the sensor cable inside the lever attaches to the gear lever paddle.

Those helpful folk at Madison (Shimano importers) suggest I buy a whole new lever for £130 as "it is not meant to be serviced due to numerous small parts"

I just wondered if anyone has indeed tried servicing one of these brifters, and could give any advice?

Otherwise I shall disassemble the lever into its constituents and post each of the numerous small parts separately to Maison without stamps.

If the flightdeck doesn't work then check the white cable you can see when you pull the brake. If that is still attached then I'd just accept that your flightdeck won't work. What exactly do you think you can service in the shifter?
    More problems but still living....

Thanks. That is exactly what I wanted to check and - the connection of the white sensor cable at the point where it is attached to the gear lever pivot. I'll slacken off the brake cable to get a bit more access.
  • You can check the connection of the plug into the lever body is clean and free of debris, but that's about it.

Unless you service Breitlings for a living do not even contemplate it! For the record Shimano STI's have around 200 parts inside them and do not lend themselves to servicing! The price quoted from Madison is for what they call the lever blade, that is to say the whole lever except the handlebar clamp/grip area.

If the unit still changes gear forget the repair. If not, have a go but prepare for a frustrating time! The new lever blade would be the easiest way to repair.
    Second is losing!!

I'm guessing this is the part I need:
