Back to the original question, start by putting a 11-23 block on, that should sort most things.

Why does everyone seem to think 40mph is around the max speed in a race? I've raced up 50mph on various courses around the SE England / Midlands region and at this speed even 53x12 needs a high cadence.

NB: Despite what LA says cadences over 100+ are not new.

Indeed, I recall getting dropped on the first lap of an all categories pan flat race a few years ago (the previous year had seen the 3s and 4s catch the Es 1s and 2s, so the organisers decided the best bet was to punish them for such impudence the next!) with Mark Lovett and Rob Hayles driving it from the front 30-35mph was the order of the day right from the gun. With my maximum for the day being 42!

what is that the sound? is it a can of worms being opened.

Well, it's now a couple of pages later and your prediction of a "can of worms" is proving very accurate. Can you give me tomorrow's winning "mega millions" lottery number?:wink:
  • That's nothing, I once spun so fast my legs went back in time and married my grandmother (and it was uphill and on a compact)

Nah doubt it, my legs will go for anything in a dress.

I'm am 100% confident if I got good at racing I could keep up in sprints/win on a 34/50 with 27-12 cassette.

And if I had a Yamaha R1 I'd be World Superbike champion
  • I think I can fairly confidently predict that if no-one else took part I could scrape a podium position at the Tour De France.

It would be a bit warm wearing all the coloured jerseys at the same time but I imagine it gets a bit chilly in the mountains so it should all even out.
