Winter leg wear

Winter is nearly upon us but what to wear to avoid frozen legs? My local bike shop says that bib tights are the way to go but I have seen guys wearing tights under their shorts. Any advice on comfort/warmth?

tights under the shorts? Nah, they bunch up around the crotch.
best option is suspenders0 -
Sorry to hear about your crotch bunching but what is the best alternative?0

I've used Endura leg warmers recently. No bunching but in this weather your nuts can get a bit cold so I'm switching to thermal tights  with baggies over the top and will take my chances on the bunching....."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." Try your local Lidl... They had a load of "snow boarding kit" on offer down here from last Thursday. Bought two sets of most of it, the baselayer top/trousers are really comfy and do not bunch up================

Tights under baggies is the way forward in winter, keep your knees nice and toasty. Mine aren't bibbed ones, but I assume it would help stop you getting cold air running up the back of your top and around the kidneys, which should keep you even warmer.0

I usually find a butt plug stops the bunching.Stumpjumper fsr comp £1,600
Some cycle clobber £357.26
A load of stuff to clean and lube with £54.56
Hydration rucksack £9.95

I have bonded with my Endura Pro Knee warmers and they are so long they can be moved up/down according to the conditions. Worn with crew-length socks they expose just a teasing glimpse of suntanned, sinewy calves *ahem*0 -

Thanks for the tips/jibes/pics, all good stuff! Better keep out of the wife's wardrobe on balance. Will probably stuff a load of cash into padded tights at my LBS, as they haven't steered me wrong thus far.0

I have a pair of DHB bib tights from Wiggle and a pair of Endura Thermolite bib tights. The DHB ones were approx £40 and in my experience the better ones. They are not quite as warm as the Endura ones which I find a tad too warm. Most importantly however the DHB ones have a zip on the front which means you don't have to fumble about quite so much and contort yourself so much when you need a pee.
For those not sure what I mean try a freezing morning in the woods, add chest high bib tights along with the need to take a piss almost the moment you have put them on. Having a zip makes the whole experience so much easierGiant Anthem X3 20130 -
for cheap bibtights, check out tenn clothing. I bought a pair from them for£19.99, seem good quality too0
