Which trainer to go for?

I'm looking around for a new indoor trainer to get me through the winter. I have a TACX I-Magic already, but am going to sell it. Time pressures etc it is too much of a faff getting it going. So instead I'm looking for something I can just jump on and get my training done.

I have been looking at the Cycleops Pro Series Jet Fluid Pro or the Elite Crono Power Fluid Elastogel (the one recently reviewed in Cycling Plus). Neither trainer has the option to make adjustments, so I guess you just work your gears.

Can anybody recommend either trainer or make alternative suggestions? My only worry is the lack of adjustability, has anybody any experiences on non adjustable trainers?

Lastly, the only other option I have considered is a set of rollers. From what I can gather they don't work you as hard as a trainer could, but are great for improving finesse. Anybody any thoughts trainer vs rollers?

As far as trainers go I think it's pretty good, smooth, quiet, and nine levels of resistance, gives you plenty of room for adjustments?

Why not just buy a new head unit from a Tacx flow for your Imagic?
I'm pretty sure they are all interchangable from this range.
It would be much less than a whole new trainer and its one you know.
  • I explored that route and it was barely cheaper than buying a Flow outright and wasn't a recommended option, as in it's apparently not as straight forward as it seems.

I'm hoping the I Magic will do well on Ebay and will cover the cost or most of the cost of a new trainer.
  • mab, thought I'd bump this back up as I don't have an indoor trainer and am wondering about the merits of rollers vs trainer. the rollers look attractive as you get em out put the bike on it and pedal....however it looks like it may take some getting used to plus what about changing resistance etc?

advice welcome...or do I just keep on getting wet and crap myself whenever I need to stop sharpish
